Review: Quite easy to use and looks professional/naturalHow to use:These are supposedly for professional use only but are no different in use to supermarket kits once you have bought the stuff. They work well and give a much better result over time, only a little more expensive. Covers grey well too. You can mix the colours to get any shade you like (I use half 7 and half 8). The whole numbers indicate a “base” lightness/darkness and you can choose to add redness or other twists by selecting a tube with a “decimal point”. Shades are numbered with 1 as the darkest. You’ll probably want to experiment on cut-off strands of your own hair before deciding which shade you want. Not for use by people under 18. I’m not a hairdresser, have no qualifications and this is just my experience. Warnings on the packets indicate the need to do a skin test 48 hours before you use it in case of allergic reaction. Don’t rely on amateur reviews on Amazon for safety advice! You need to buy an oxidant to mix with these. Inoa also produce oxidants and you probably need 30 vol (9%) or 20 vol (6%). Use the 30 vol if you want to lighten the hair significantly (by up to 3 shades). Oxidants are almost certainly recommended in the amazon sections below. You need:- Tube of this product (or two if mixing shades)- Oxidant creme- Kitchen scales- Plastic bowl- Disposable gloves/rubber gloves- Brush for painting the mixture on and for mixing (I use one you get free in a supermarket hair dye)- Hair grips if necessary- Plastic comb- Old towel and/or plastic bag round neck to protect clothing- Timer/clockHair should be dry and brushed but it doesn’t really matter whether it’s clean.Put on gloves, then use kitchen scales to measure out equal volumes (1:1 ratio) of colour and oxidant. Mix together very well using the brush. You’re likely to need about one whole tube of colour to cover roots if you have fairly thick hair. You might need more though (I do), so have some in reserve. You can put the top back on the tube and use the rest later.Keep gloves on. Paint the hair outwards from your parting generously with the mixture (If your hair is already coloured, you’ll just want to paint the roots. Don’t keep re-colouring the whole hair each time as it will accumulate and quickly get darker. You can lighten natural hair, but you can’t significantly lighten already coloured hair with this.) Now use a comb to create a new parting a little to one side and repeat until you’ve covered the whole head. The painted hair will conveniently stick together so you may not need grips. The back can be tricky and you may want to rig up a double mirror system or just do it by feel. Do the hairline and temples especially well (don’t leave these to last).Try to work reasonably quickly, otherwise the first part you cover will have a much longer exposure time than the last part (don’t panic though, it’s not that critical).Wait 30 minutes after you’ve finished.Using gloves, massage roots/hair for 5 minutes to blur any edges to the colour.Rinse thoroughly and then shampoo really well, ideally using Inoa “post” shampoo (which seems to work really nicely and is supposed to remove residue better). There is also an Inoa colour conditioner, which gives my hair good condition and less knots. That’s it.I sometimes find I get redness in the colour immediately afterwards even though I use a base colour. This reduces quickly with a few good shampooings. It’s also less pronounced if I use 30 vol oxidant rather than 20 vol.Extras:I like to make the look more natural by doing a few strands with slightly different colour (about 1/2 a shade different) so it’s not all identical. You can use aluminium foil to separate them. I also occasionally add a few highlighted strands using majimeches highlighter for a “sunkissed” effect.
